I don't think this is "live". It's the song off her album, dubbed in over the video of her singing it live. It is exactly like the album, a live version would sound slightly different.

A long, long, long, long way from Joni Mitchell & just her accoustic guitar, in the 60's singing 'Both Sides Now" and now with a full orchestra behind her. I might be in the minority but I much rather hear the 1960's version any day.

Lot of propping up of fakery by a lot of liberals. But the message she spouted takes precedence, it must live on. She sang of hatred of her own culture because it sold well with people that must hate themselves. The Indian culture was probable the most barbaric warlike in the world, yet now days it has been white-washed as the most idea culture to ever exist. Good grief.

She was spitting at her own culture and made a lot of money doing it. There is no perfect culture to harp on, not white, not bloody constant warring Indians, not any culture is blemish free, yet some make a living at perpetuating the lies that this or that culture is better than others. She just made a multimillion dollar career off white shaming and hiding her past by threatening her family into silence.

I hate to be THAT person, but here i go. In the description of this video, Buffy is referred to as Native American. Although she has lived most of her life in the USA, she was born in Canada & has dual citizenship. That would make her First Nations not Native American. She was one of the thousands of indigenous children kidnapped from their families & communities & was adopted by a couple from Massachusetts. EDIT 2 weeks later; Well, the shit really has hit the fan about this bio being false. I'm kinda amused by the coincidental timing of my comment, but saddened that her story is just a fabrication & so many have been deceived for so long.

The amped-up way she talks, and her frequent smiles and short laughs, are trauma symptoms. I've known several people who were abused as children and later became dependent on drugs, with the same mannerisms. (Luckily, the super-intelligent Joni has only allowed herself an addiction to nicotine). Another characteristic of the abused child is constant vigilance, which comes from living in a dangerous environment. Joni has this in spades. She's hyper-alert. Always on the edge of a fight or flight response. Loquacity is another defense mechanism. You protect yourself with a wall of words. Charm is another defense tactic. So is defiance. From time to time, she bares her claws and hisses. Or she expands like a bull-frog to threaten you. Her apparent open-ness is another defense tactic. " See? I'm honest and open. I have no secrets you can hurt me with." (Of course she has many secrets). Her preference for living alone, with a few pets, further confirms her traumatised condition. She only feels safe when she's alone. Other people are experienced as potential abusers. The main reason so many men and women fell in love with Joni Mitchell is the same reason they fell in love with Marilyn Monroe (another abused child): her visibly vibrating vulnerability. But she was born with an artistic gift and enormous strength of character. Character is more important than talent. Joni Mitchell is, without question, a great artist, like Georges Sand, Colette, Edith Wharton, Georgia O'Keefe, Emily Dickinson or Piaf. She can perform wonders.
